Certified Medication Technician (CMT) - 12 to 16 hours per week

This position is casual,  part-time.  Hours may vary.  Must be available on holidays and weekends.

Overall Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
The CMT role is providing daily medications, either prescription or non-prescription, to patients whose condition and drug regimen are stable. Will have a list of patients and medications each day, and must administer medications in the indicated dosage at the correct time. Must ensure that patients actually swallow medications, which can be an issue when working in corrections. Must be able to enforce and abide by all medication pass rules and regulations that are set within the correctional institution. Needs to be able to accurately and efficiently observe changes in any inmate’s behaviors, vital signs, and medication compliance or medication adverse side effects and be able to report these to the nurse on duty in a timely manner.  Needs to be able to accurately gather information from newly arriving inmates and efficiently report this information to nurse on duty in a timely manner. Must be able to use common inner office equipment such as: computer, fax machine, copier, scanner and have good telephone/communication skills.
JOB SKILLS: Must have a strong grasp on basic patient care. Have the ability to accurately obtain vital signs and be observant to report any change in patient condition to nurse on duty. They must clearly understand the legal and ethical limits of their position. Must have a clear understanding of medical and pharmacological terminology, and be able to manage medications for a large number of patients without making dosing errors or providing medications to the wrong patient. Must be able to perform regular office duties as instructed by nurse on duty such as faxing, making copies, filing, answering telephone calls, preparing paperwork for transfers and gathering information from new inmates upon intake. Needs to be detail oriented with the ability to prioritize job duties as changes occur.

Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION/TRAINING: High School Diploma or GED equivalent, CNA/ NCA/HCA/PCA with Certified Medication Technician Certificate, CPR Certification, Insulin Administration Training with Certificate, Active Driver’s License and the ability to pass physical exam, criminal background check and drug screen
WORK EXPERIENCE: 1 year of experience is preferred but willing to train.
