Maintenance Worker III - Full-time - Armstrong County Jail

This is a full-time position, 8 AM to 4 PM, M - F (schedule may be adjusted as necessary).

OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB:

To perform general maintenance and repair duties and provide security within the Jail and buildings and grounds of the County.

This is a full-time position.  Hours of work: 8 AM to 4 PM, M - F (schedule may be adjusted as necessary). 

Duties include but are not limited to:
Provides maintenance duties as required; receives supplies at loading docks and verifies accuracy of orders received; stocks facility supplies; checks gauges and other equipment for proper operation, and makes minor adjustments if necessary; makes rounds to ensure safety within buildings; transports materials to/from selected locations; changes light bulbs as needed; changes pumps and motors as needed; checks air conditioning and refrigeration units and charges as necessary; installs equipment as needed; cuts and trims grass with mower or riding tractor, shovels or plows snow as needed; performs general plumbing, electrical, heating and air conditioning repairs; makes repairs to damaged equipment; operates power equipment and hand tools; paints required fixtures, buildings and other objects as directed; performs carpentry duties as assigned.  Security is always a primary concern when working, must document items used and the return of items used during maintenance repairs; coordinates upkeep and inspections of Jail vehicles with County maintenance staff.

EDUCATION/TRAINING:
High school diploma plus trade school training in electrical, plumbing, carpentry and painting required.  Must be willing to complete and pass Training at PA Department of Corrections Basic Training Academy 5-week training course. Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Driver's License and a willingness to travel as needed. 
WORK EXPERIENCE:
2-4 years’ experience in maintenance or custodial environment.
