Essential functions of This Position include but are not limited to:
Coordinates, supervises and schedules nursing staff to ensure that each shift is covered with appropriate personnel; makes regular nursing rounds to an assigned group of patients, performing basic patient care functions; pours and dispenses medications as directed by physicians; charts treatments and medications according to prescribed policies; takes and records temperatures, pulses, and respiration rate of inmates; performs nursing duties such as ordering medications, taking and recording of blood sugars, hemocults, catheterizations, oxygen, blood pressures, etc.; notes, reports and records indicative signs and symptoms in the condition of a patient; maintains and supervises the maintenance of nursing and patient care records and related services as completed; ensures that the physical maintenance of the assigned area is neat, clean and safe; confers with nursing supervisor concerning the care and treatment of individual patients; assists in transporting patients to/from bathroom, in/out of wheelchairs, or to other required areas of facility; assists with food trays, feedings, linens and other patient care needs as necessary; calms agitated patients and assists in the general physical and emotional needs of the patient; assists family members with any personal needs or questions; prepares monthly summaries; reports any problems or emergencies to proper department.
Current LPN license. (Graduate from approved school of practical nursing.)
None required; however, previous nursing home experience and/or working with elderly population preferred, or any acceptable combination of experience and training.
